The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics strives to provide students with friendly, knowledgeable service to make their time at the University of Houston as enjoyable and productive as possible. You, the student, can help us serve you by understanding how advising services are provided in our college and using them accordingly.

Undergraduates’ first stop for academic advising in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is the Undergraduate Advising Center.

The college recommends that you meet with your advisor at least once a semester. Your advising session will be most productive if you have questions ready when you meet with the advisor.

During walk-in hours, sign in will begin 15 minutes before the advising period begins. Once the maximum number of students who can be seen during that advising period have signed in, sign in will stop.

Undergraduate Advising Center can assist you with:

  • Degree requirements and selection of an NSM major
  • Course selections
  • Requests for major and minor degree plans for programs offered by NSM
  • Submission of General Petitions for:
    • Change of major
    • Change of degree objective
    • Course substitutions/degree requirement exceptions
    • Evaluation of equivalency of courses transferred to UH
    • Special Problems courses
    • Course overloads

Each of the six departments within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics also has an undergraduate faculty advisor who works in conjunction with the advisors in the Undergraduate Advising Center. Students may wish to consult with their faculty advisor about such topics as advanced course selection, attending graduate school, and selecting a career.
