PLANNING YOUR PUBLICATION
Please contact Susan Hammons at 713.743.2624 or via email at mshammons@uh.edu to make an appointment for an intital review meeting.

What you must do--

In preparation for your meeting with us, please think about the following points:

  • What is your deadline?
  • Who is your intended audience?
  • What is the primary purpose of your publication?  Is there a secondary purpose?
  • What is the proposed medium, website or print?
  • What quantity will you need?
  • Is a reply card or tear sheet desired?
  • What is your budget?  While exact figures aren’t necessary, an approximation will help us make the most appropriate recommendations about factors such as color and paper quality.
  • What do you want to highlight about your department, program, or facility?  Be prepared to provide or research the information.
  • You, or your department/program, are responsible for the factual or legal accuracy of the text you provide, whenever appropriate.

What we will do--

  • We provide design consultation. We will present you with a variety of templates for your project, or can assist in creating a new graphic design for you.
  • We will obtain cost estimates.
  • We will help you create a clear, concise, and readable publication or website copy based on information you provide.
  • We will ensure that the publication is well edited - We utilize the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th Edition, as the arbiter of grammar and usage for all publications and website writing.
  • We will coordinate artwork, photography, layout, and printing.
  • We will make sure your publication follows the guidelines for graphics, publication, and photography standards as set by the University of Houston and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
  • We can assist and advise departmental website developers on content, organization, and layout.
  • We will proof your website text upon request.
